Keith Thurman won a hard fought twelve round split decision over Danny Garcia on Saturday night at the Barclays Center. Thurman took most of the early rounds and even rocked Garcia a few times, but Garcia weathered the storm. Garcia seemed to shift momentum in the middle to later rounds with some good body shots, but Keith Thurman stayed the course and would not let Garcia establish any rhythm during the fight.
Keith Thurman came out very aggressive in the early rounds and then for some reason seemed to take his foot off of the gas and let Garcia sneak back into the fight. During the rounds, Thurman's trainer seemed to indicate that he was ahead and to box smart. This may not have been very sound advice given the fact the fight was very close. Both fighters were landing big shots. The one difference in this fight seemed to be Thurman's size. He seemed to land harder shots and take the hard shots better from Garcia. The final scores were 115-113, 116-112 for Thurman and 115-113 for Garcia.
