Kell Brook vs. Jessie Vargas close to done deal

Over the past several weeks a summer unification welterweight showdown has been in the works that would pit IBF champion Kell Brook (36-0) against WBO champion Jessie Vargas (27-1).

There were a few stocking points to making the fight happen - namely the location of the fight and the purses. Vargas, who won the title by stopping Sadam Ali in March, wanted the fight in his hometown of Las Vegas or another location in the United States while Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn said that the fight had to take place in the United Kingdom in order to maximize the revenue of the fight.

BoxingScene.com spoke to Vargas last week and he said that he was willing to travel for the fight but that Hearn would have to sweeten his offer to get him to fight on enemy turf.

Apparently Vargas has now received an offer to his liking - and the likely date is August 27th.
"The fight is close to being finalized we just need a few other things to officially confirm," Vargas told BoxingScene.com in an exclusive interview Thursday afternoon.

Earlier today in a video by BoxingScene's Declan Taylor, Hearn stated that the location of the fight would be Bramall Lane, home of the Sheffield United football club in Brook's backyard.

"I think the deal is probably imminent on that fight. I think in the next couple of days..[it will happen] at the end of August in Bramall Lane. 100%, our target is to make Kell's next fight at Bramall Lane," Hearn told BoxingScene.com.

As for the fight itself Vargas said that he plans on making a lot of new fans in the UK.
Check back soon for more from  Vargas on his upcoming unification bout.
