The president of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya, has announced that the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. James Kirkland bout will be held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on May 9, 2015. "The week around Cinco de Mayo will be the biggest in years for boxing, bridging the present and the future as the three biggest stars in the sport all step into the ring in just a seven-day period,” said the Golden Boy. “It is my hope and belief that this May week will usher in a new era of our sport, one in which we as a sport give fans what they want, the best facing the best.”
Minute Maid Park holds 40,950 seats for a baseball game. I imagine there will be quite a few more for this event, given the fact they can put seats on the field. This will be a gigantic event for Houston. It'll be interesting to see ticket prices and if the event sells out.
