Cotto beats Geale, Canelo next?

Cotto beats Geale, Canelo next?

WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KOs) beat an overmatched Daniel Geale (31-4, 16 KOs) on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.  This was
Cotto's first defense of his "middleweight" title.  Cotto did exactly what he should have done with an overmatched opponent - he got him out of there in impressive fashion.  Cotto, as promised, went to the body very early.  It actually looked like he hurt Geale to the body in the first round.  Geale, didn't look like he knew what to do in this fight.  Cotto landed the better shots in the next two rounds and in the fourth round, he dropped Geale twice.  The first was a beautiful left hook, that was preceded by a clash of heads.  This put Geale flat on his back against the ropes.  He beat the count, but seconds later was the victim of a barrage by Cotto, that put him down again.  He beat the count and then informed the ref that he had enough.  The end came at 1:28 in round 4.

Geale, obviously upset after the fight said "I am so disappointed.  It went too fast and I am extremely disappointed."

Cotto said after the fight "Canelo will just be another fight.  If the people want the fight to happen, it will happen."  When he was asked about his weight, he said "My weight yesterday was 153.6 pounds, you think I'm a middleweight?  I'm not."  Then why continue to to make middleweight title defenses?

As far as fighting GGG goes, well, don't hold your breath.  Cotto's body language did not seem very receptive to a fight with Gennady.  "Why not, after the next fight, we'll see," Cotto said hesitantly when he was asked.
