The Biggest Loser of the Mayweather - Pacquiao Fight Revealed . . .
And the biggest loser of the Mayweather - Pacquiao fight is . . . . Miguel Cotto. Cotto gave up a multi million dollar payday against Canelo Alvarez. He gave this fight up to wait for a rematch with Mayweather. Now, Mayweather is fighting Pacquiao. Alvarez is fighting James Kirkland. And Miguel Cotto is now out in the cold looking for an opponent. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people to fight. But none of them will get him the payday that Canelo Alvarez would have brought to the table.
Who does Cotto have to thank for this? His advisor, Gaby Penagaricano. Every interview I've heard or read has had his advisor saying very little. If I were Cotto, this guy would be fired. He just cost him millions. If he was waiting for Mayweather, shouldn't his advisor be plugged in enough to the situation to know what's going on? Mayweather said weeks ago that he wasn't interested in a Cotto rematch. It's his advisors job to know where the fighter stands and he failed miserably.
So, what now? I've heard other names being thrown around, like Tim Bradley and Erislandy Lara. Tim Bradley is going to have to move up 13 pounds to fight Cotto. That's way too big of a jump for him, especially since he doesn't have knockout power in his division. Not too mention, Bradley is coming off a draw to Diego Chaves and a loss to Manny Pacquaio. Nobody is going to be jumping out of their seats waiting for that fight to go down. The other name being tossed about is Erislandy Lara. Lara is coming off a solid win against Ishe Smith. But, Lara is not the most exciting fighter on the planet, not too mention his style would be all wrong for Cotto.
We'll have to wait and see what the next move is for Cotto, but I think his best move would be to get rid of his dead weight advisor.
