Eddie Hearn, the promoter for Kell Brook (33-0-22 KOs), is
looking to put together a fight between Kell Brook and Juan Manuel Marquez
(56-7-1-40KOs). They are trying to
set the fight up for the summer in the United Kingdom. “We are in talks. It’s
a fight that I would love to make – not just as a promoter but as a huge boxing
fan,” Hearn said via Skysports.com. “Juan Manuel Marquez is one of my favourite
fighters of all time. I believe a Marquez-Brook fight at Bramall Lane is a
massive fight this summer. We’ve had a few chats with their camp and things are
moving along in the right direction, but Marquez I believe is the frontrunner
right now.”
Even though Marquez is in the twilight of his career, I
think it’s still a viable fight for Kell Brook. It would put a big name on his resume and I think Marquez
still has enough left to make it a competitive fight. Marquez has always been known for his boxing ability and
while he’s not the same guy he was 10 years ago, he can still go. The one concern I would have, aside
from his age, is his knee and the fact that he’s coming off of a long
layoff.
As much fun as this is to think about, Kell Brook has to get
by his next opponent – Jo Jo Dan (34-2-18 KOs). That fight is to take place on March 28 in Sheffield. Conventional wisdom says that Brook
wins this fight easy, but we all know anything can happen when you get in that
ring.
