Golovkin - Murray gets big ratings
I think it's safe to say we have a new draw in the middleweight division. Gennady Golovkin and Martin Murray managed to draw a total of 1.4 million viewers to the HBO telecast. The fight, which took place in Monte Carlo, peaked at 938,000 viewers. The fight was broadcast live and then again on delay that evening.
This is great news for HBO and Golovkin. We may just may have a new ratings attraction in the near future. This means bigger and better fights in a marquee division. Incidentally, Golovkin retained his middleweight title by knockout out game challenger Martin Murray. Murray gave a good account of himself, but Golovkin was way too much for him, as he has been for every opponent he's faced.
