Mandatory Heavyweight title contender Alexander Povetkin, who's bout with current WBC champion Deontay Wilder was postponed two weeks before the two combatants were expected to meet in Moscow do to a failed drug test, will not receive any penalty.
The WBC has decided not to punish the mandatory challenger for the failed test.
According to a recent article from ESPN.com Povetkin (30-1 22 Kos) will most likely be given a shot at the interim title since The champion Wilder; will likely be sidelined until 2017 do to his injuries suffered during his eighth round stoppage of challenger Chris Arreola.
According to ESPN.com, a bout for the Interim title has been ordered for the highest contenders to face off. The contenders are Alexander Povetkin and Bermane Stiverne. Both are rated number one and number two.
Stiverne, is looking for his second crack at the heavyweight title. His first came as a lopsided decision loss to Wilder back in 2015.
