Unbeaten featherweight Diego de la Hoya (12-0, 7 KOs) won the vacant WBC Youth title via ten round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Jesus “Estrella” Ruiz (32-7-5, 21 KOs) on Friday night at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Scores were 100-90 twice and 99-91.
Two-time Brazilian Olympian Everton Lopes (4-0, 1 KOs) was dropped twice, but somehow escaped with a majority decision over previously undefeated Omar Tienda (13-1, 8 KOs) in a super lightweight fight. Lopes was down in round two and again in round five. Scores were 75-74 for Lopes on two cards, and 75-75.
Unbeaten featherweight Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (11-0, 10 KOs) impressed again with a second round KO over late sub Luis Lizarraga Jr. (5-6-1, 2 KOs). Gonzalez dropped Lizarraga hard in round two with a left hook and Llzzaraga’s corner entered the ring to stop the fight. Time was 2:09.
Unbeaten super featherweight Ivan “Striker” Delgado (7-0-1, 2 KOs) scored a one-sided six round unanimous decision over journeyman Thomas Herrera (4-14-1, 1 KO). Scores were 60-54 on all three cards.
Super bantamweight Rafael Gramajo (5-1-1, 2 KOs) scored a hard-fought six round unanimous decision over Adrian Rodriguez (1-7-1). Gramajo stalked the southpaw Rodriguez as he circled the ring in the opening round. Shooting the right hand Gramajo attacked Rodriguez in round two and continued to work the inside. Rodriguez pressed in round four as he had Gramajo up against the ropes swinging away. Gramajo however was able outwork Rodriguez all the way in route to a unanimous decision as all three judges scored the bout 58-56.
Super lightweight Jonathan Navarro (2-0, 1 KOs) scored a four round unanimous decision over debuting Gibran Gutierrez (0-1). Near dropped Gutierrez twice in round one and again with seconds left in the fight. Score was 40-33 on all cards.
