This has to be one of the best moments for Badou Jack. Just a couple of fights ago, he suffered a knockout loss. Instantly, he was being counted out by everyone. Surely, there was no way he could get past Anthony Dirrell, right?
Badou Jack MD over Anthony Dirrell - Super Middleweights
Badou Jack was very aggressive early in the fight. He landed a big right in the second round that stopped Dirrell in his tracks. Dirrell started using his Kronk left hand. What is a Kronk left hand you ask? This is when you carry your left hand low in order to shoot the jab out fast. This is a style that Tommy Hearns and a lot of of other members of the Kronk Gym used. The problem, of course, is that you leave yourself open for the right hand. And, that's exactly what Dirrell did. He was hit repeatedly by Jack over and over with the right. Not only that, but Jack did some amazing body work, that I think actually won him the fight. He was able to slow Dirrell down in the later rounds. Darrell actually looked somewhat confused at times in there. Jack was the aggressor throughout the fight and it ultimately paid off in the end as he wins a majority decision and the WBC Super Middleweight Title from Anthony Dirrell. Ringside Reporter had the fight scored 118-110. Judges had the fight scored 114-114, 116-112, 115-113 for Badou Jack.
Daniel Jacobs TKO 12 over. Caleb Truax - Middleweights
The judges were going to score this fight for Jacobs and rightfully so. He was winning the fight clearly, but up until the stoppage it was actually very competitive. Truax definitely had his moments with Jacobs, but by and large, the boxing ability of Jacobs was just a little too much. When Jacobs would use his jab, he would control the fight fairly easily. The final round saw Jacobs catch Truax with a left hand that staggered Truax and caused a standing 8. Seconds later, Jacobs landed a sharp right hand with Truax on the ropes and the referee called a halt to the fight.
Roberto Garcia UD 8 over James Stevenson – Jr. Middleweights
Stevenson caught Garcia early with a short right uppercut that dropped him. Garcia got up and continued to move forward, but not being very effective in the process. Garcia started to close the distance in round 2. Garcia continued to stay busy throughout the fight and just put constant pressure on Stevenson. Garcia controlled the fight until the end. Ringside Reporter had the fight scored 78-73 Garcia. Judges had the fight 77-74, 78-73 2x for Garcia
