Some news and notes - King Mo Lawal is on hand, as well as former champion Joe Calzaghe.

Jose Quezada KO 2 over Jamar Saunders – Lightweights

Quezada’s record is 5-0, 4KO’s.  So far he looks like the real deal.  Tons of pressure, but more importantly, very technical.  This fight ended in the second round with a flurry of . . . body shots.  That’s right.  Body shots.  Saunders was counted out in the 2nd round after being dropped.

Eddie Ramirez TKO 5 over Jerome Rodriguez - Jr. Welterweights

Good body work by Ramirez in the 2nd.  Putting Rodriguez against the ropes and holding him there while teeing off to the body.  Ramirez has a great work rate and is overwhelming Rodriguez early in the fight.  Rodriguez is going to have to figure out a way to keep Ramirez at bay if he wants to win this fight.  This fight was brought to an end in the 5th when Ramirez caught Rodriguez with a stiff uppercut against the ropes and put him down.  Rodriguez beat the count but the fight was waived off.

Keith Tapia KO 1 over Jason Smith - Cruiserweights

Keith Tapia made short work of Jason Smith knocking him down a couple of times in the first round.  The second knockdown put him out for good.  Tapia looked good, very tight crisp shots.

Alex Martin UD 8 over Jonathan Garcia - Welterweights

Martin with the cleaner shots so far in the fight.  Garcia is definitely the aggressor in the fight, however he is largely being ineffective.  Martin landing anything he wants at this point.  Martin is boxing well, but he seems to lack any power on his shots.  Round 4 – Garcia is landing some really big body shots and trying to slow the quicker Martin down.  Garcia continues to eat a lot of shots.  The tide seems to be turning a bit here in the 5th.  Garcia starting to land the harder, cleaner shots.  Martin starting to sharpen up in the 6th landing hard shots to Garcia’s head.  Garcia seems to be chasing now.  More of the same in the final 2 rounds.  Ringside Reporter had it scored 78-74 for Martin.  79-73, 80-72 2x – for Martin

Ramiro Carillo TKO 2 over Ramon Guevara - Welterweights

Good body work by Carillo in the first round.  A straight left floored Guevara in the 2nd, but he was able to get out of the round.  2nd Round Carillo came out with big shots and was able to knock Guevara down twice.  I don’t think Guevara ever really recovered from the knockdown in round 1.  The end came with a flurry of shots on the ropes, the referee stepped in to stop the fight as Guevara fell to his knees.

Semajay Thomas TKO 2 over Jose Santiago - Welterweights
Thomas very aggressive and got tagged by a huge counter left hand that put him on the canvas at the end of round 1.  Thomas seemingly unfazed by the knockdown comes out aggressive again, this time catches Santiago with a monster right hand followed by a left.  Santiago beats the count, but decides not to continue and the ref waived it off.

Rickey Edwards UD 6 over Shiwone Gortman - Jr. Welterweights

Edwards the aggressor in the fight working off the jab.  There was a questionable knockdown in round 2 when Rickey Edwards landed a short overhand shot on Gortman that appeared to push him forward.  It was counted a knock down nonetheless.  Third round, Edwards seems to be swinging wildly trying to get Gortman out of there.  He is landing some shots and appears to be hurting Gortman.   Gortman needs to put something together if he hopes to get back in this fight.   Round 4 – Gortman is catching Edwards a couple of times with left hooks, sweeping left hooks.  No damage really being done, but if he could sit down a little more, it may make a difference.  Another round for Edwards.  More of the same in Round 5.  Edwards landed some hard crisp shots.  Gortman showing a lot of heart in this one.  Edwards content to stick and move in this round.  Gortman for the first time in the fight is coming forward, but still doesn’t appear to be winning the round.  Ringside Reporter has the fight  60-53 for Edwards.   All 3 judges scored the fight 60-53 for Edwards.

Maciel Sulecki TKO 2 over Darryl Cunningham
Artur Szpilka TKO 2 over Ty Cobb
