I love Chinese food like everyone else, but come on. This is ridiculous. The weigh in for the IBF Flyweight title between Amnat Ruenroeng (IBF Flyweight Champion) and John Riel Casimero took place at the Great Wall of China in Beijing.
Amnat Ruenroeng 117.75 vs. John Riel Casimero 113.25*
(IBF Flyweight Title)
Zong Ju Cai 105 vs. Samson Tor Buamas 105
(IBF Inter-Continental Female Minimumweight title)
Zhao Zhong Xiao 105 vs. Jose Antonio Jimenez 105
(IBF Minimumweight eliminator)
Both Ruenroeng and Casimero weighed in over the limit of 112 pounds. Ruenroeng weighed in almost 6 pounds overweight!! Casimero was 1.25 pounds over.
Both promoters got together and tried to figure out what to do. This is almost unprecedented that both fighters come over by that much. Both fighters had two hours to make weight after the weigh in. No way Ruenroeng is dropping 6 pounds in two hours.
Enter, IBF President, Daryl Peoples who was able to shed some light on the weigh in, that included an appearance by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. "“The Great Wall weigh-in was supposed to be a mock weigh-in with Mike Tyson there as an attraction. The ‘real’ weigh-ins were supposed to be at the hotel. The press was supposed to be told about this but wasn’t. Both fighters were weighed-in at the hotel and were on the money.”
This sounds pretty odd to me. I can understand the press not being alerted, but the promoters were not alerted either? Nobody in the fighters camps were alerted? This sounds pretty fishy. That being said, the fight will go on as planned on Wednesday.
