Cotto to announce signing with Roc Nation tomorrow
There are numerous reports that Miguel Cotto is leaving Top Rank and will be signing a promotional contract with Roc Nation sports on Thursday. Cotto has been working with Top Rank since 2013.
Top Rank President, Todd duBoef spoke with boxing scene and told them the following - "I'm disappointed in their conduct across the board. People can make business decisions and I may not agree with it, but I'll tell you what, when you talk about a relationship - conduct is everything.
Cotto turned down an estimated 10 million dollar payday to fight Canelo Alvarez. Todd duBoef claimed that emails and calls suddenly went unanswered from hm concerning the fight. "You don't act that way if you know how to handle relationships and it's in your DNA to be professional," stated duBoef.
Three possible opponents were on the table for Cotto - Tim Bradley, Brandon Rios and Cornelius Bundrage. All three of these are fighters are promoted by Top Rank. Are these fighters still on the table for Cotto? "Put it this way, I would never, ever, ever, ever dismiss anything on behalf of our duty to what we think is the best for our fighters. I would never, ever ever, ever, ever dismiss it," stated duBoef.
Miguel Cotto had better hope and pray that his advisor, Gaby Penagaricano knows what he's doing because he has just cost Cotto a 10 million dollar payday and possibly 3 opponents.
