HBO is planning to put sensors in boxing gloves . . . Kinda like the PBC

The network has been awarded a patent for sensor technology that would see an accelerometer and gyroscope embedded into the front of boxing gloves.

A database containing motion profiles can then recognise data sent from the sensors, to track the duration and speed of a punch.

The plan is to show real-time punch statistics during fights, similar to the way the speed of tennis shots is displayed during tournaments.

It follows a move by the NFL this season to add computer chips to players' shoulder pads.

It has allowed broadcasters to show the speed and distance of player sprints during plays.

HBO has been reportedly testing the technology for years.

The system could also see sensors added to the boxer's shorts, headgear and shoes to take more measurements during a bout.
