Austin Trout leaves no doubt

Austin Trout leaves no doubt

Former junior middleweight champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout (30-2, 19 KOs) systematically dismantled Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez (24-4-1, 14 KOs) before finally stopping him with a perfectly placed right hook to the body to drop him at the end of the sixth round on Tuesday night at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood,
California. Hernandez struggled to his feet but not until referee Jack Reiss reached a ten count and waved off the bout. Trout controlled the action, throughout, but Hernandez had his moments and landed a few good counter shots as Trout was willing to mix it up in spots. In the fourth round, Hernandez, frustrated with Trout leaning on him, looked nothing like his Twinkle Fingers nickname as he was able to execute a perfect professional wrestling style bodyslam of Trout, as good a bodyslam as one will ever see in a boxing ring. Reiss, however, was neither impressed nor amused, and deducted a point from Hernandez and that was Hernandez’ final bright spot before being stopped at 3:00 of the sixth round. With the victory, Trout puts himself back into title contention with hopes of becoming a world champion once again.

In a walkout bout, Eddie Ramirez (10-0, 7 KOs) won a unanimous decision victory over 60 fight veteran and former world champion, super scrappy Cristobal Cruz (40-18-3, 24KO). Ramirez dropped Cruz in the first round and won every round of the six round super lightweight contest. All three judges scored the bout 60-53 in favor of Chicago native, Ramirez.

Unbeaten light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (12-0, 11 KOs) demolished Fabiano Pena (11-3-1, 8 KOs), dropping him with a clubbing right cross in the opening round. Pena made it to all fours but seemed in no condition to continue leading the referee to halt the bout at 1:15 of the first round of a scheduled 10 rounder. The likeable Elbiali keeps his perfect record intact with the victory.

In semi main event action, featherweights Jorge Lara (27-0-2, 19 KOs) and Jesus Rojas (22-1-2, 15 KOs) battled to a six round technical draw in a Mexico versus Puerto Rico battle. The undefeated Lara, from Guadalajara, Mexico, opened strongly in the first two rounds but was cut by a seeming accidental headbutt from the once beaten Rojas, hailing from Caguas, Puerto Rico. By the fifth round, Rojas was landing a lot more than headbutts as he stalked Lara and let his hands fly. At the end of the sixth round, Lara told the referee that he couldn’t see out of his cut and swollen right eye and the decision went to the scorecards. All three judges scored it identically at 57-57, a unanimous technical draw.

In a super lightweight bout scheduled for four rounds, Kevin Watts (8-0, 3 KOs) kept his record perfect with a knockout over Darnell Jiles (9-4-2, 3 KOs). Time of the stoppage was 1:39 of the third round.
Alexis Santiago (19-3-1, 8 KOs) easily outboxed the usually very competitive veteran Javier Gallo (21-12-1, 12 KOs) to win a unanimous decision victory in a six round bantamweight bout. Judges scored it 60-53, 59-54 and 60-53 all in favor of Santiago.

Maurice Lee (5-0, 3 KOs) had little trouble with Sean Henson (2-2, 2 KOs), knocking him out at 0:35 of the third round of a scheduled four round super lightweight bout.

In the opening bout, Charvis Holifield (4-1, 3KO) wasted no time in stopping overmatched Jose Mejia (1-4, 1 KO) after just 0:36 of the first round of a scheduled four round super lightweight bout.
