Hail Cesar!!! Cuenca wins IBF title remains unbeaten

Hail Cesar!!! Cuenca wins IBF title remains unbeaten

Two unbeaten junior welterweights went at it in Macao.  Cesar “El Distinto” Cuenca (47-0, 2 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Ik Yang (18-1, 13 KOs) to claim the vacant IBF world title on Saturday night at the Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena. Southpaw Cuenca, was a huge underdog coming into the fight (+500).  He knocked Yang down in the first round and continued to school him throughout the fight.
Yang had his moments in the fight also.  He dropped Cuenca in round five.  But, Cuenca came back in round six and landed more clean shots to win the round.  Both fighters had moments in round seven. Cuenca continued to outbox Yang.  Yang's frustration continued into the last round when he threw Cuenca down and got a point deducted for his trouble.  Scores were 117-110, 115-110, 116-109.

With the win, Cuenca passed Joe Calzaghe for third place on boxing’s all-time list of unbeaten/untied world champions, behind Floyd Mayweather (48-0) and Rocky Marciano (49-0).

Nonito Donaire was also on the undercard and won with a second round TKO over Anthony Settoul.  Donaire dropped Settoul twice in the first and once more in round two before Settoul's corner threw in the towel.
