Apparently everything is bigger in Texas - even the weights. Frankie Gomez was scheduled to fight in Minute Maid Park in Houston, while Omar Figueroa is fighting in Hidalgo, Texas. Both fighters came in today overweight.
First, Frankie Gomez showed up 6.5 pounds overweight for his fight - that was subsequently cancelled, then Omar Figueroa showed up 1.5 pounds overweight for his fight against Ricky Burns. This fight is scheduled to take place at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.
You have to ask yourself - what on earth is going on in Texas? Is the food really that good? Incidentally, Ricky Burns weighed in at 139.2 pounds.
The good news is that the Figueroa vs. Burns fight will go on as scheduled.
