Lamont Peterson will be Stripped of his IBF Title if he Loses to Garcia

Lamont Peterson will face Danny Garcia at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Saturday. Peterson holds the IBF junior welterweight title and Garcia holds the WBA and WBC junior welterweight titles.

The problem is that both fighters are fighting at a catchweight of 143 pounds, instead of the normal 140 pound junior welterweight limit.

Daryl Peoples, president of the IBF told boxing scene "He loses the fight, the title will be vacated."

Apparently, Peterson was due for a mandatory defense and requested an exemption.  He was given the option to fight one of two ranked IBF contenders or a unification bout.  Peterson chose Garcia, but once the fight was made, the two agreed on a catchweight of 143 pounds.  At that point, it was no longer a unification bout.

If Peterson loses, which the oddsmakers say he will, the next two top IBF contenders will fight for the title.  Who are they?  Cesar Cuenca and IK Yang.  Yep, exactly, what I was thinking too.
