With all major opponents taken and amid a ton of backlash, Amir Kahn has decided to go ahead with his fight against Chris Algieri.
Amir Khan and Chris Algieri has been set for May 29 and will take place at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The fight will be televised on Spike TV.
Amir Khan (30-3, 19 knockouts) will be fighting for the first time since his win over Devon Alexander in December.
Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) lost his last fight to Manny Pacquiao. Now looking to get back in the title hunt, he is ready for Amir Kahn.
“I have happy memories of New York, having made my successful U.S. debut there against Paulie Malignaggi in 2010,” Khan stated in the PBC press release. “I’m delighted to now be fighting there once again against another champion in Chris Algieri.”
“I am very excited to get back into the ring and to be fighting here in New York,” Algieri was quoted. “Fighting at Barclays Center, where I won my world title just under a year ago, is an added bonus.”
The show is being promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Star Boxing.
“I’m thrilled that Chris will be back in Brooklyn at the Barclay Center in such a significant fight,” said Algieri’s promoter, Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing, when reached for comment. “To his credit, Chris continues to take on the best boxers in the world and Amir Khan fits that bill. I’m looking forward to another great event in Brooklyn.”
