Kell Brook vs. Errol Spence set for May 20

Kell Brook could bring his IBF world welterweight title defence against Errol Spence to Bramall Lane.

Brook had hoped to face Amir Khan at a football stadium in his next fight but has had to settle for his dangerous mandatory challenger.

Purse bids were due to be held on Tuesday but the governing body announced a deal had been agreed and a date of May 20 in Sheffield pencilled in.

And with the regular football season finished by then, Sheffield United's ground will be available.

Although the fight's venue is to be confirmed, promoter Eddie Hearn said terms have been agreed between the pair and described it as the "best fight in the division".

And his response to a Twitter follower appeared to lock in the location.

"If it's Bramall Lane, I'll have your children," posted Stef Johnson. To which Hearn replied, " Best stick Peppa Pig on then."

The Blades are currently five points clear at the top of League One and Bramall Lane holds more than 37,000 fans but that could be increased with pitch seating.

Brook won the title against Shawn Porter in August 2014 but has struggled for momentum since.

He was stabbed while on holiday in Tenerife a month later and did not return to the ring until six months later.

One-sided victories over Jo Jo Dan and Frankie Gavin followed before a rib injury sidelined him once again.

He fought twice last year, knocking out Kevin Bizier before stepping up to middleweight to face fearsome puncher Gennady Golovkin.

Brook was stopped in a five-round fire-fight and lost his unbeaten record in the process.

The 30-year-old's promoter Eddie Hearn encouraged him to move up to light-middleweight but Brook was unwilling to relinquish his belt.

Spence, meanwhile, has won each of his 21 professional fights but has yet to the tested at the highest level.
