Margarito defeats Alvarez by split decision.

In only his 2nd fight since December 2011, Former Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (40-8-27ko’s) won the WBO Continental Super Welterweight title on Saturday night as he defeated Ramon Alvarez (23-5-15ko’s) via ten round split decision

After a slow first two rounds, the 38-year-old fighter from Tijuana started to assert himself on the lesser experienced Alvarez. Margarito’s pressure style seemed to take its toll on the fighter from Guadalajara, as Alvarez seemed to be visibly tiring throughout the course of the bout. Alvarez was floored in round eight by a Margarito right hand. The Judges’ scorecards were as followed, 97-92,97-92 for Margarito and 95-94 for Alvarez.
