HBO announced its coverage plans for unified light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev’s defense against Isaac Chilemba on July 11. Although HBO’s boxing telecasts have been on Saturdays for many years, Kovalev-Chilemba is on a Monday at the DIVS Arena in
Ekaterinburg, Russia. HBO will televise the fight on same-day tape delay beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT, with the broadcast crew calling the fight from a studio. Kovalev (29-0-1, 26 KOs), 33, in what is supposed to be his final fight before a fall showdown with former super middleweight champion Andre Ward, will be fighting in his home country for the first time since 2011. He will be making his eighth title defense. Chilemba (24-3-2, 10 KOs), 29, a native of Malawi living in South Africa, will be fighting for a world title for the first time.
