In practically the same breath, Floyd Mayweather made a potential fight with Conor McGregor sound like a sure thing and an open question.
The former welterweight and super welterweight champion joined Showtime to talk about that very fight on Friday, and fight fans certainly will be intrigued by Mayweather's comments:
Asked whether the fight would be a boxing match or an MMA fight, Mayweather dismissed the idea of entering the Octagon:
Mayweather also refused to say that he would dominate McGregor in the ring:
Mayweather retired from boxing with a 49-0 record after defeating Andre Berto in September 2015, but his company recently applied for trademarkssurrounding a possible 50th career fight.
As for a potential prize amount, Mayweather made it very clear that if he steps back into the ring, it'll be for at least $100 million:
Will the fight actually happen, as Mayweather "absolutely" thinks? We're going to remain very, very, very skeptical about that one, just like UFC president Dana White. After all, logic is on White's side in this one, especially given McGregor's contract situation. But anything is possible. Right?
