Floyd Mayweather not making friends in MMA

Floyd Mayweather not making friends in MMA

If you trash talk Conor McGregor, you better expect him to fire back. Boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. just became McGregor’s next target.

Mayweather, who claims he’s never seen McGregor fight conducted an interview with Fighthype.com saying, because of his skin color, the Irishman gets a hall pass for the comments he makes.

“And what’s so crazy, I don’t really know the McGregor guy; never seen him fight,” Mayweather said. “I heard his name actually from one of the runners that works for our company; a little kid named Ken Hopkins, he’s a runner and takes care of a lot of the daily business. Whatever we need, he takes care of. He’s a cool little kid, I like him, and he does MMA. He told me about the guy McGregor. They say he talk a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I’m cocky and arrogant. So biased! Like I said before, all I’m saying is this, I ain’t racist at all, but I’m telling you racism still exists.”

Eight days after Mayweather’s comments, the featherweight champion took to his Facebook page to address the comments made by Mayweather.

“Floyd Mayweather, don’t ever bring race into my success again,” McGregor wrote. “I am an Irishman. My people have been oppressed our entire existence. And still very much are. I understand the feeling of prejudice. It is a feeling that is deep in my blood. In my family’s long history of warfare there was a time where just having the name ‘McGregor’ was punishable by death. Do not ever put me in a bracket like this again.”

McGregor went on to state if Mayweather wants to put his money where his mouth is, he’s ready to fight. While a fight between the two is unlikely, McGregor did offer a split purse with “Notorious” getting the higher percentage.

“If you want we can organise a fight no problem,” McGregor added. “I will give you a fair 80/20 split purse in my favour seen as your last fight bombed at every area of revenue. At 27 years of age I now hold the key to this game. The game answers to me now.”

McGregor has kept himself in the news since his 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo at UFC 194. He was recently named by Rolling Stone as one of the “25 hottest sex symbols of 2015.” But he’s also come under some scrutiny as he’s under investigation in Ireland for a picture he posted on his Instagram two days ago holding an air-soft rifle, along with the caption, “Put the fight game in the bag and step away from the vehicle.” He issued an apology and explained why he was holding the soft rifle.

“I apologise for having the air-soft in public,” finished McGregor. “I was simply rehearsing for a potential upcoming film role.”

McGregor returns to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 197 on March 5 when he moves up in weight to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title.
