Almost immediately after his fight with Delvin Rodriguez, Erislandy Lara started calling out WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Surely, his people would have already been in contact to make this fight happen, right?
"No, I haven't heard from his camp," Tom Loeffler told boxingscene. "We're still trying to figure out the next date and what the next opponent for Gennady. Lara had his win on Friday, but we're just going through to see who's the best opponent for Gennady at this point."
The million dollar question here is will they be able to work out a deal with Erislandy Lara? After all, Lara is with Al Haymon and GGG is with K2 and has an HBO deal.
"I mean from our side we're pretty neutral. We do have an exclusive contract with HBO. I haven't approached the topic yet with HBO, if they would even approve someone like Lara. But if that becomes more of a serious conversation, that's something we'll certainly approach them with."
"Gennady's focus is to unify the titles. That would be his top priority at this point, to fight another champion at the middleweight division," said Loeffler.
