Overall this was a pretty good card. The Gomez - Kamegai fight was really good. It was action packed from start to finish. Here are the results:
Alfonso Gomez UD 10 over Yoshihiro Kamegai - This fight was classic Alfonso Gomez. Starting quick and ripping shots to the body early. There was no quit in Kamegai who kept coming and was in the face of Gomez all night. The difference in this fight seemed to be the harder shots landed by Gomez. Gomez had a point taken away in round 4 for pushing his head forward - not exactly a headbutt, but really close. Kamagai was game, but really disappointed in this fight. I thought for sure Kamegai was going to beat Gomez, but Gomez really took it to him in this fight. The scores were 98-91 on all three cards.
Ronny Rios UD 10 over Sergio Frias - This was the first fight back for Ronny Rios after coming off a TKO loss to unheralded challenger Robinson Castellanos. The scores for this fight were 99-91 (2x) and 98-92. While I thought Rios won the fight, I think it was a little closer than the scores indicated. Frias actually impressed me more in this fight than Rios. I honestly didn't think Rios looked all that great and I would like to see Frias again. Frias seemed to only fight in spurts though, while Rios threw more punches and came forward.
Jamie Kavanagh TKO 5 over Miguel Zamudio - Kavanagh was knocked down at the end of round 2, but got up and was able to get the TKO at the end of round 5. The fight was stopped by the doctor because of a combination of swelling over Zamudio's left eye and his inability to answer the questions he was being asked. This was a competitive fight and I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch. I thought the fight may have been stopped a little early, but I'm not the doctor.
