We talked about some interesting things on the podcast last night, not the least of which was the possibility of Broner vs. Kahn in Cincinnati. Before you dismiss it, just listen - Broner is scheduled to fight in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 20. All major of the major players are either fighting or have fights planned
already. Danny Garcia already has a date with Lamont Peterson for April 11. Another potential opponent, number one contender, Viktor Postol is fighting on that undercard also. Thomas Dulorme is fighting Terrance Crawford on April 18. Also, on April 18, Lucas Matthyse and Ruslan Provodnikov are slated to fight each other.
All that said, that leaves two potential “name” opponents. Chris Algieri and Amir Kahn. Algieri has not fought since his loss to Manny Pacquiao and does not currently have a fight scheduled. Amir Kahn is lobbying for a fight with a big name opponent. Both Kahn and Broner have been involved in a twitter war over the past few days.
Could this fight actually take place in the Queen City of Cincinnati, Ohio? At first, even I laughed at the possibility. US Bank Arena, located in Cincinnati, is not big enough to hold this type of fight, I said. Turns out, I was wrong. The Barclay Center in Brooklyn holds 18,103. The MGM Grand Garden Arena holds just under 17,000 seats. US Bank Arena holds 17,556 seats. Would you really move the arena to New York for a few hundred more seats? Would you move it to Las Vegas for less seats? There are plenty of hotels in the area as Cincinnati has hosted and continues to host big events.
Now, of course, all of this is speculation as of right now. We don’t know that Kahn vs. Broner will take place on June 20. We don’t know that fight would take place in Cincinnati. There are definitely a lot of unknowns, but one thing is certain – it makes a lot of sense.
