Newly minted WBC lightweight champion, Mikey Garcia, has some lofty goals. In a recent interview with Fighthype.com he made it real clear that he wants to fight Keith "One Time" Thurman.
“I would also jump up right now to fight [Keith] Thurman, and then come down to 40 and then 135 again,” stated Garcia. I’ll fight [Thurman] right now. Let’s get him. Let’s start calling out for Thurman. Let’s get him at 47; I’ll fight him at 47 in July. How about that? I’ll do it.”
Thurman is 5'7" and Garcia is 5'6", so there wouldn't be a really big size advantage for Thurman if Garcia were to move up. Right now, there is a twelve pound difference between the two as Garcia resides at 135 pounds and Thurman at 147 pounds. Skill wise, both men have proven themselves in the ring. This could definitely be a good fight. Garcia has talked about getting big fights in the past, this would definitely qualify as a big fight.
