Don King wants an answer from the WBC sooner rather than later. Bermane Stiverne was set to fight Alexander Povetkin for the WBC interim heavyweight championship, but Povetkin failed a drug test prior to the fight. Povetkin tested positive for Ostarine, a drug that enhances stamina and recovery.
Don King stated in a prepared statement: “To say that I am very saddened and extremely disappointed that Alexander Povetkin was caught again using banned substances would be an understatement. What is the WBC going to do about it will be the answer? Bermane Stiverne deserves better than that. Bermane should be declared the interim title holder. This is the second time Alexander Povetkin is in the drug abuse program and has embarrassed the WBC causing the WBC’s sanction of the fight as a world title fight being withdrawn.”
Before we crown Stiverne as the mandatory challenger for the WBC title, let's not forget that he also failed a pre fight drug test for this fight. Stiverne tested positive for DMAA. DMAA is also known as dimethyamylamine. This is used as a stimulant and energy booster. It is found in some dietary supplements, but still on the banned list.
As far as a quick answer, well the WBC is doing their due diligence to investigate and hope to have an answer by the first quarter of 2017.
