In a move that should surprise nobody - Luis Ortiz has missed the deadline to sign the contract to fight Alexander Ustinov.
Vlad Hryunov, Ustinov’s manager, told Boxing Scene that Luis Ortiz failed to sign the bout agreement by the September 4 date.
Ortiz is now without a promoter and soon may be without his WBA regular championship. The bout with Ustinov was part of the WBA tournament to find an undisputed champion - because apparently Tyson Fury beating Wladimir Klitschko wasn’t enough for them.
It is very likely that Ustinov's people will now approach the WBA about stripping Ortiz of the title.
