Manny Pacquiao's gotta make a living

Manny Pacquiao's last fight against Tim Bradley was marketed as his last fight.  Bob Arum and HBO sold this fight as the last time you will ever see Pacquiao in the ring.  The reason - because he was making a run for senate and he would not have enough time to train.  Manny Pacquiao said that being a senator would be his priority and he would focus all of his time on that.

Pacquiao was elected senator in the Phillipines and that was thought to be the end of his boxing career and the beginning of a very promising political career.  Not so fast.

Bob Arum has announced the Pacman will make his comeback in Las Vegas later this year.

In a statement that neither confirmed nor denied his comeback, Pacquiao said "should there be (a fight), I'll make sure it will not interfere with my Senate duties."

"Boxing is my only means of livelihood to support my family and to help those who are in need. Politics, to me, is a vocation not a means to eke out a living," he said.

This is a pretty bold statement by Pacquiao.  He is the richest senator in the Philippines.  A 2015 statement listing his assets had Pacquiao's worth at around $69 million dollars.  That is around 3.2 billion pesos.

An average senator in the Philippines makes about $90,000 pesos per month.  That may sound like a lot, but that really only translates to $1900 per month before taxes and deductions.

Pacquiao argues that boxing is how he makes a living and feeds his family.  Pacquiao's only worth $69 million dollars, he's gotta eat too.
