Top Rank announced a notable co-feature for its card on June 25 (UniMas) at the Bomb Factory in Dallas: Matt Korobov (25-1, 14 KOs), the former Russian amateur standout whose pro career has been slowed by injuries, against well-known veteran Bryan Vera (23-10, 14 KOs) in an eight-round super middleweight bout.
Korobov, 33, is seeking his second win in a row since suffering a sixth-round knockout loss to Andy Lee in a fight for a vacant middleweight world title in December 2014.
Vera, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas, the former participant on “The Contender” reality series, has lost four fights in a row, including a heavily disputed decision to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and a rematch with Chavez.
“Korobov is a skilled fighter, but willing to engage, which is good news for Bryan Vera, who never met a brawl he didn’t want to participate in,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said. “A lot of people thought Vera beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in their first fight in Los Angeles. He was that close to being a world champion. Bryan Vera is a very rough fight, for anyone.”
Former junior welterweight titlist Mike Alvarado (35-4, 24 KOs), of Denver, faces Josh Torres (15-4-2, 7 KOs), of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the previously announced eight-round main event.
