Alexander Povetkin has taken another drug test and this time has a good result. Povetkin took another drug test on May 17. That test showed that there were no traces of Meldonium in his system. The test was conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). So, all together, only one of the six samples that were submitted by Povetkin showed meldonium.
Povetkin's people are claiming that the positive test was directly related to Mildronat that he ingested last year.
Andrey Ryabinsky, Povetkin’s promoter, said “I want to emphasize that Alexander Povetkin has never taken any prohibited drugs. We will have to sue our American counterparts and some of the US tabloids that have expressed extremely unjustified views.”
Ryabinsky claims that the fight should take place by the end of the year. The fight that was scheduled to take place in May was, of course, canceled due to the positive tests given by Povetkin. Povetkin tested positive for meldonium.
The WBC has not made a decision about canceling the fight or suspending Povetkin. If we know the WBC, we will see Povetkin soon with or without a positive test.
The WBC is in favor of a clean sport as long as it doesn't affect their bottom line.
