Floyd Mayweather Jr has confirmed Ashley Theophane will challenge Adrien Broner for the WBA world super-lightweight title.
Londoner Theophane (39-6-1-KO11) has been in and around Mayweather's camp for over two years and at the age of 35, now has his first shot at a world title.
Mayweather Jr, who is focusing on Mayweather Promotions since retiring in September with a record-equalling 49-0 record, said: "My fighter Ashley is from the UK… him and Adrien Broner will fight in Atlanta.
"We [are] doing a big show in Atlanta at the end of January. Ashley and Adrien will be fighting for the title."
Theophane is a former British champion who won the national super-lightweight crown in February 2011 when he scored a unanimous decision over Lenny Daws at Wembley Arena, although he handed the title over to Darren Hamilton the following year after two successful defences.
Despite six defeats in his lengthy career, Theophane has never been stopped and took future world champion Danny Garcia to a split decision early in 2010. He is undefeated since another split decision defeat two years ago to Pablo Cesar Cano in Las Vegas, where he now lives.
The outspoken Broner won the vacant title by stopping Khabib Allakhverdiev in the final round in Las Vegas in October - bouncing back from June's points defeat to former world welterweight champion Shawn Porter at a 144lb catch weight.
Ahead of the clash with Porter, Mayweather Jr was regularly seen with Broner but relations between the pair have cooled of late with 'Money' stating 'The Problem' has "a lot of growing up to do."
