Liam Smith KO's John Thompson to win WBO title

Unbeaten jr middleweight Liam “Beefy” Smith (21-0, 11 KOs) scored a sensational seventh round KO over Boxcino winner John Thompson (17-2, 6 KO) to win the vacant WBO world jr
middleweight title (formerly held by Demetrius Andrade) on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Thompson thoroughly outboxed Smith to build up an early lead, but Smith came on midway rocking Thompson in round six. Smith then laid out Thompson face down with a big right hand in round seven. Time was 1:44. Smith is the first of the famous fighting Smith family from Liverpool to win a world title.

WBO world lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (29-0, 12 KO) annihilated Diego Magdaleno (28-2, 12 KO) in two rounds on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Flanagan spectacularly dropped Magdaleno three times in round two and the slaughter was finally waved off by referee Terry O’Connor at 2:38 with Magdaleno being brutalized on the ropes.

Flanagan, making his first defense, turned in a stunning performance in what was considered a 50/50 fight going in.
