Wladimir Klitschko will defend his world heavyweight boxing titles on Oct. 24 in Germany, according to multiple reports.
Klitschko (64-3, 53 knockouts) will meet the United Kingdom's Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) at Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. The 39-year-old Klitschko, a native of the Ukraine, holds the IBF, WBO, IBO, The Ring heavyweight championships, as well as the WBA superheavyweight belt.
Klitschko last fought April 25, when he beat American Bryant Jennings in a 12-round unanimous decision in New York. He has won 22 consecutive fights dating back to a 2004 loss to American Lamon Brewster.
Fury, 26, last fought in February, beating Christian Hammer in an eighth-round retirement. Only two of his professional fights have gone the distance.
Tuscaloosa's Deontay Wilder holds the WBC heavyweight title, the only major belt not held by Klitschko. Wilder beat Eric Molina in a ninth-round TKO on June 13 in Birmingham, and has a bout against a to-be-determined opponent tentatively scheduled for late September.
Should Wilder win in September, he'd then likely make his mandatory title defense against No. 1 WBC contender Alexander Povetkin some time in early 2016. Povetkin (29-1) knocked out second-ranked Mike Perez in the first round on May 22.
Thus, any potential unification bout between Wilder and Klitschko is unlikely to occur before late 2016.
