Deontay Wilder: Povetkin will not be next

World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (34-0, 33 KO's) is not going to fight Alexander Povetkin (29-1, 21 KO's) of Russia in 2015, according to the champion's manager Jay Deas.

Povetkin became the mandatory challenger in May after blowing away durable contender Mike Perez of Cuba in one round.  Wilder, who captured the world title in January from Bermane Stiverne, stopped Eric Molina in nine rounds in June.

Wilder is going to return on September 26th, but no opponent has been set at the present.  Chris Arreola was under heavy consideration.  He fell out of favor after his poor performance against Fred Kassi a few weeks ago.

"We were looking at Chris Arreola as a potential challenger for the September fight, but he didn't show anything serious in his last fight.  As for Povetkin, he will not be Deontay's opponent in the fall," Deas said.

The World Boxing Council is going to order the Wilder-Povetkin negotiations in October.  The sanctioning body expects the fight to take place in the first quarter on 2016.
