Chavez Jr. too big for Marco Reyes

Chavez Jr. too big for Marco Reyes

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32 KOs) was able to win a lackluster ten round unanimous decision over Marco Reyes (33-3, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. Chavez landed some big shots on the much smaller Reyes in the second round. Junior continued to stalk Reyes, overpowering Reyes in exchanges although Reyes was busier. Reyes was deducted a
point for a headbutt in round nine which cut Chavez over the left eye.  This was a strange moment in the fight as the referee didn't seem to want to deduct a point, but Chavez Jr. was crying for fouls all night.  Chavez Jr. was the bigger and stronger fighter because he came in overweight and who knows what he weight in on fight night.   Scores were 97-92, 98-91, 96-93.

This was a lackluster win for Chavez Jr. to say the least.  He looked no different under Robert Garcia than he did under Joe Goosen.  He looked like the same out of shape cry baby that he has been throughout his career.

2008 Puerto Rican Olympian McJoe Arroyo (17-0, 8 KOs) won a ten round technical decision over Arthur Villanueva (27-1, 14 KOs) to win the vacant IBF junior bantamweight world title on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. Villanueva was deducted a point by referee Rafael Ramos in round six for coming in with his head. He was also cut over the right eye by a different head butt in the same round. The bout was stopped due to the cut in round ten and the bout went to the scorecards. Scores were 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.

I have to be honest - I'm not sure where they get the referees in El Paso, but it makes me never want to watch a fight there again.

Undefeated 140-pound contender Amir “Young Master” Imam (18-0, 15 KOs) scored a spectacular fourth round KO over former world title challenger Fernando “La Fiera” Angulo (29-10, 16 KOs) in a WBC world title eliminator. Imam landed a right hand flush behind the ear of Angulo that laid him out face first.  After the fight Imam and promoter Don King were clamoring for a fight with Floyd Mayweather.  Since Imam seems to have a pulse, that fights out.
