Miguel Cotto vs Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is quite possibly the most exciting match up to be made in the sport of boxing right now and, if Cotto's camp are to be believed, confirmation of the bout will be with us soon.
"There is a lot of movement in every way,” said Gabriel Peñagarícano - Cotto's advisor - to ESPN Desportes.
"Where will the fight be? It’s something that we have not determined. On November 21, it is a possibility. But neither is entirely definite.
"The date will be linked to the place. As I said before New York and Las Vegas are viable. This is a big business. We should not dismiss Dallas. We have to see what they have. The announcement could be in July.”
Puerto Rican Cotto is the reigning WBC middleweight champion but a catch weight would seem likely if the fight happens given that Cotto isn't a natural middleweight and fought his last fight at 157lbs catchweight Daniel Geale.
Mexican superstar Alvarez is coming off an impressive third round knockout victory over James Kirkland and would likely be the slight favorite given his size advantage and the fact that he is ten years Cotto's junior.
