A big right hand by Povetkin started the problems for Perez, who just never recovered. Perez was down and beat the count and was finished by Povetkin just moments later.
Povetkin is now the mandatory challenger for Deontay Wilder, who makes his first title defense on June 13 against Eric Molina.
