James DeGale wins the IBF Title over Andre Dirrell

James DeGale wins the IBF Title over Andre Dirrell

James DeGale (21-1, 14 KO's) won the IBF Super Middleweight Title over Andre Dirrell (24-2, 16 KO's).  DeGale floored Dirrell in twice in round 2.  Dirrell recovered nicely and continued to press the action throughout the fight.  DeGale landed good shots, but for the most part, it was Dirrell who was the aggressor - especially toward the end of the fight.  That lasted until the final two rounds.  DeGale took both of the final rounds and won a unanimous decision by the scores of 114-112, 117-109, 114-112.

Light heavyweight, Edwin Rodriguez (27-1, 18 KOs) scored a third round TKO over Craig Baker (16-1, 12 KOs). Rodriguez landed some right hands and then referee Bob Benoit called a halt to the fight.  To say this was stopped early is an absolute understatement.

Danny O’Connor (26-2, 10 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Chris Gilbert (13-2, 8 KOs). O'Connor steady worked the body in this fight.  Gilbert was never really in this fight from the outset.  The bodywork payed dividends and lead to a series of knockdowns in this fight.  The referee called a halt to this fight at 1:04 of round
5.  This was a great fight for O'Connor, but he had to be a little disappointed.  He was supposed to fight Paulie Malignaggi next Friday on Spike TV.
